SLM Solutions
Product design with manufacturing expertise
With ID DESIGN's support in product design and preliminary engineering, an exhibition design with special add-on structures was developed within a very tight timeframe. The design of the NXG XII 600 is an evolution of the existing color and form language of SLM Solutions machines, reduced to a few distinctive core elements while appearing more modern and iconic. Key areas of the machine, such as the lasers, were deliberately highlighted to emphasize the revolutionary character of the new machine.

Design Development
During the design phase, the main challenge in this project was translating the design language of the existing SLM machines into a more modern machine generation.
The character of familiar SLM machines was to be retained, while the form language of the new Product design with manufacturing expertise was intended to point clearly toward the future and reflect the state-of-the-art additive manufacturing technology of the entire machine.
This was achieved primarily through a progressive and organic machine shell, supported by coordinated product graphics.
Structural Analysis and Engineering
One of the most challenging tasks in this project was developing the platform structure with the involvement of an external structural engineering service provider and taking all safety aspects into account to ensure standards-compliant implementation.
In addition to the safety requirements, the later assembly of all components had to be considered carefully as early as the engineering phase. Since the platform of the exhibition machine was to feature a glass railing and be backlit from below, this was an exciting and challenging task.
In addition to the critical structural components, the enclosure panels were also planned and engineered through to completion.
Manufacturing and Assembly
After the engineering phase, ID DESIGN was also responsible in this project for supporting the manufacturing of several housing components, particularly the platform, and for organizing on-site assembly.
Given the very tight schedule, a major focus was on monitoring production and checking critical individual components to ensure that all structural requirements were met without exception.
Exhibition machine
Thanks to smooth and focused collaboration between everyone involved, a fully functional presentation machine was assembled on schedule despite the tight timeframe.
As part of an elaborate and extensive product presentation, theProduct design with manufacturing expertise could therefore be presented to the public.
Technology
The Product design with manufacturing expertise is the current benchmark in selective laser melting. With 12 integrated lasers, it achieves a new level of productivity and, thanks to reduced part costs, is also suitable for series-production components.
