Focused concept development starts with a sound requirements analysis

To successfully realize a production-ready product, it is advisable to divide the development process into clearly defined phases. This enables targeted coordination of technical requirements, optimization potential (e.g. with regard to manufacturing costs and material selection), as well as systematic planning of the manufacturing implementation.

Depending on the project scope and objectives, the individual stages can be coordinated and prioritized together with the customer or flexibly handled by ID DESIGN.

This ensures that your product is not only technically well engineered, but also economically efficient and ready for production.

Together with our customers, we create a detailed requirements specification in which all relevant influencing factors are systematically identified and prioritized – from installation space and interfaces to industry-specific standards and regulatory requirements.

This structured preliminary work provides the basis for clearly defining design constraints and manufacturing flexibility – creating a solid foundation for targeted, design-for-manufacturing (DFM)-oriented concept development.

Design development based on technical requirements

Starting from the technical concept, we use rapid sketch sprints to develop a broad range of potential design approaches.
We develop the most promising variants further using 3D visualizations and photorealistic renderings and present them to support the decision-making process.

Visual communication for series-ready products

Logos, icons, packaging, and technical markings contribute significantly to the perceived quality of your product. In addition to classic design elements, we also develop approval-relevant graphics, operating instructions, and labels that are integrated into the product and packaging in a functional, standards-compliant, and brand-consistent manner.

User Guidance Meets Function – GUI Development for Series Products

A well-designed and technically validated Graphical User Interface (GUI) is essential for all products with display components. We develop structured interface concepts and design the graphical content to be functional, consistent with your brand, and suitable for series production.

In close coordination with software developers, we support your GUI development through to an implementation-ready production solution – tailored to the display resolution, interaction logic, and system architecture.

Pre - Engineering

Preliminary engineering as the basis for efficient series development

In preliminary engineering, we convert the approved concepts into a functional 3D CAD model (SolidWorks), including all relevant components, interfaces and installed parts. The goal is to define the installation space precisely and coordinate the technical solution with all involved disciplines.

 

Purchased parts and external components are integrated in close coordination with suppliers and manufacturing partners and validated as an assembly.

​

Careful preliminary engineering provides the basis for smooth, DFM-oriented detail development – significantly reducing development effort, costs and later iteration loops.

CAD Engineering – Precise, Manufacturing-Oriented, Design-Focused

During the engineering phase, all technical and design requirements from the concept and preliminary engineering phases are transferred into a detailed 3D CAD model. Ease of assembly, service accessibility and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) are integral parts of our work.

​

By integrating functions, optimizing parts and selectively using alternative manufacturing processes (plastic injection molding, aluminum die casting, sheet-metal bending, prototyping), we can achieve defined target costs even for small production volumes.

​

A particular added value: our product designers support the process continuously to ensure that technical implementation and design quality remain aligned.

​

We work with SolidWorks as standard and, depending on the project, also with PTC Creo.

Manufacturing Planning & Documentation – Production-Ready from the Start

During engineering, we already take the planned manufacturing process into account and coordinate critical details with manufacturers and suppliers at an early stage.
We deliver manufacturing-ready 3D CAD data and standards-compliant technical drawings for tooling, prototypes or series production.

On request, we integrate your documentation requirements throughout the entire development process, for example to support CE, UL or medical approvals.

Prototyping

Prototyping – Validate, Test, Convince

Before investing in tooling and series production, a prototype that closely represents both function and design offers the opportunity to evaluate functionality, ergonomics and aesthetics under realistic conditions.

​

Depending on the objective, we use different processes: from simple foam or 3D-printed models to high-quality components made from the final production material and manufactured using series-equivalent processes – ideal for trade fairs, customer presentations or field tests.

​

In the digital field, we also offer modern prototyping tools such as clickable prototypes (e.g. using Axure) or VR models for design and UI testing with 3D headsets (e.g. HTC Vive).

Manufacturing & Certification

Series Production Support & Manufacturing Planning – Reliable Through to a Market-Ready Product

We support your product development through to series-ready implementation – with the goal of delivering a functional, high-quality and marketable product.
We have many years of experience with all common manufacturing processes (e.g. plastic injection molding, aluminum die casting and sheet-metal fabrication) and a reliable network of qualified suppliers in Europe and Asia.

​

To ensure your components are produced at the required quality level, we actively support DFM adjustments, tooling approvals and the transfer into series production.
