The future of
urban mobility?
The salt is a lightweight, agile and practical electric motorcycle developed by ID DESIGN as part of an internal project specifically for urban use.Its purist, elegant and above all functional design makes it ideal for commuting, shopping or transporting medium-sized objects.
A modular rear architecture allows users to adapt the salt to their individual needs. The storage space in the center of the salt accommodates a backpack or, if required, a second battery to extend the range from 70 km to 140 km.

Modularity
A universal adapter behind the seat creates a platform for a wide range of practical modules for everyday use of the bike. The adapteris not only used to attach the modules, but is designed to function itself as a carrier for crates, boxes or other large objects.
The modules shown here are intended as inspiration – of course, many other usage scenarios are conceivable.

Batterie

Concept & Design
Following extensive research into user groups, environment, target audience and competitor products, several fundamental development objectives emerged. The project was intended to implement the following key points:
transport of objects – modular architecture – flexible use – elegant design – simple and unisex
What began as an idea and a sketch on a sheet of paper developed over a period of six months into a mature concept.
Through a wide range of sketches, CAD concepts, VR reviews and physical volume models, we progressively refined the concept until we reached the final design.

Frame concept
To reduce the development and manufacturing costs of the project, the design consists largely of carefully selected off-the-shelf components.
A well-designed and sophisticated frame structure made from bent and welded aluminum tubes forms the robust core of the vehicle. All standard components such as the fork, rear wheel and suspension connect to this frame.
For all custom-designed parts, care was taken to avoid tooling-dependent plastic components.

Outlook
In the next stage, initial riding and ergonomics tests are to be carried out using a functional prototype. We already have several key components such as the motor and controller – these must be tested and coordinated along with the frame itselfin combination with all standard components. Following these functional tests, further decisions concerning the continued development of the salt will be made step by step.
After testing the first prototypes, we will most likely seek cooperation with investors or development partners for the further certification topics and the transition into series production.
