Pelvic sling

The Champ Pelvic Sling is used for emergency patients who have sustained a pelvic fracture.
Pelvic fractures are often associated with internal bleeding and displacement of the bones. A sling is therefore applied directly at the accident scene to compress and stabilize the pelvis so that the patient can be transported safely.
To control the amount of pelvic compression precisely, we developed a patented belt closure that locks automatically once a defined tensile force is reached in the belt.

Concept Development
The development objective – a belt closure that automatically locks at a defined force – required an extensive research and ideation phase.
The different concepts were analyzed for feasibility and the most promising solution was transferred into a CAD model for the prototyping phase.

Tooling
Several prototypes using different techniques were produced to verify the functional concept.
Rapidly iterated 3D-printed samples were followed by further prototypes made from production-representative materials, which refined the product in terms of technical function, usability and manufacturability.
